Legion – What are you waiting for?!

If you haven’t checked out Legion yet… WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! Legion is like Alice in Wonderland and Fight Club with the visual beauty that is Hannibal. Did I lose you? Trust me, you’re going to want to buckle in for this ride. We are introduced to David Haller who seems to have a case of too many chefs in the kitchen. This is argued against as he’s supposedly not crazy, but rather just a mutant whose power has been suppressed over the course of many years.

We find David as the interest of two major groups. One who wishes to use him as a weapon for the upcoming “war” (cliche I know) and the other wishes to be rid of him completely. WHY? I mean he’s just some ordinary guy… right? If you know nothing of David and Legion, here’s a semi-spoiler… he’s an OMEGA level mutant! In layman terms, he’s one of the most powerful mutants on the planet… actually in the X-Men lore, he’s one of the most powerful mutants… ever! Did I mention the part where he’s Professor X’s son? Oh yeah… that all makes sense now, doesn’t it?

So, he’s kind of a big deal. In only 5 episodes we’ve only seen the very tip of a rather large iceberg. The layers to the character are just one of the reasons that this show is so great. Great visuals and casting have helped paint a great picture of Fox’s 70’s X-Men Universe, very similar to First Class. Coupled with a great deal of breathing room due to being an FX show, we are in for an amazing ride this season. You aren’t limited by language or intense imagery that would otherwise not work for the likes of the CW. Every episode has been a trippy journey that unfolds layer after layer of this world but with each discovery you’re left questioning the reality of it all.

I’m really liking what I have seen so far. Unlike most of the current “SUPERHERO” shows currently, this goes against the grain by being more of a story told in a world where the possibilities are endless but predate any sort of “heroes”. It remains gritty all while remaining visually appealing. If the rumor mill has any truth in this, Sir Patrick Stewart has shown interest in reprising his role as Professor X in the series. I hope that has some truth and there’s a possibility of it occurring. It’d be like Leonard Nimoy appearing in Fringe, though minor, it plays a huge part in the overall story. One can dream…
